Gresham Power based in Salisbury; Wiltshire has an opportunity for a Business Development Director who will be responsible for developing the rapid growth of our business.

Identify and develop new opportunities within the Defence market including Valued Added Solutions for a variety of high-end markets.

Chart new areas of growth for Gresham with projects across a range of industries.

Put your experience in the Defence market sector to work generating new business and rapid growth.

Help ensure that Gresham runs effectively as a business, makes sound and well-informed commercial decisions, and achieves its financial and strategic targets.

An integral part of the Gresham Power management team, analysing market trends, advocating for customer requirements, developing strategies for sustainable growth, preparing accurate forecasts, providing input into operations planning, and representing Gresham Power with customers, prospects, teaming partners and other key stakeholder groups.

Working with the Gresham Worldwide executive team and other operating entities within Gresham Worldwide to maximise synergies and develop dynamic solutions for the most demanding requirements.

The position will call on your strong business analytical skills to understand technical requirements, assess risk, identify resource needs, develop competitive pricing models, evaluate contract terms, and construct sound business cases. In addition, success in this role will draw on excellence and experience in communications, negotiations, problem-solving and collaboration. You will bring to this position a track record that demonstrates positive leadership, creativity, resilience, and resourcefulness as well as a track record of building business selling electronics solutions with Defence ministries and the major contractors who serve them. The position will require a detail-oriented person able to actively manage integrated sales and marketing campaigns, capture client related data in a CRM platform, prepare accurate forecasts and report timely and accurate information to management.

  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally for up to 40% of your time, including customer visits and attending global industry events as required

Responsible for key deliverables to the company’s strategic and financial management processes including project budget submissions, Long Range Business Revenue Plan development and submission, business cases, Transaction Review Board submissions, and Monthly Business Reviews.

Lead the development and compilation of the market data, market intelligence and insight necessary to inform market-driven proposals, monitor and track our market opportunities, and to derive an accurate and achievable Long Range Business Plan. Lead the process of translating the business plan into short- and mid- term actionable and measurable objectives and activities.

Define and track the measurable targets and Key Performance Indicators for the business, including financial results for revenue, linked to related operating expenses and capital expenditure, as well as leading indicators such as pipeline, activation/de-activation trends, etc. Identify variances to plan, targets, and metrics on a monthly or quarterly basis and work with the Gresham team to identify and implement specific corrective actions. 

  • Identify profitable business opportunities and develop creative power electronics solutions for the most demanding customers in the world.
  • Build and maintain a working knowledge of Gresham’s offerings; participate in training / coaching opportunities
  • Identify full customer needs to uncover additional opportunities within existing and new accounts
  • Develop and manage positive relationships with strategic partners, vendors, and distributors as well as colleagues in other Gresham Worldwide operating entities to marshal resources to deliver industry leading power electronics solutions.
  • Direct marketing efforts with compelling content, industry insight, input into message development, delivery, and feedback from target audiences.
  • Capture new business with dormant and existing accounts, and prospects
  • Identify opportunities early in the sales cycle to ensure maximum turnover and profit
  • Follow up in a timely manner on quotations for the assigned customer base
  • Good interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect within the company and Group wide, including utilising technical support to assist with sales Provide appropriate communications to all levels of sales and business development staff personnel
  • Provide positive leadership and representation of Gresham to the public, customers, vendors, and to all employees
  • Represent company at industry association meetings to promote company and services offered
  • Actively utilise CRM to record activities, ensuring contact details are accurate, duplicates are removed, new information is added, and accurate call / visit logs are entered
  • Ensure compliance with all Gresham’s policies including but not limited to Terms and Conditions, trade compliance, treatment of others, moral code of conduct, and employee handbook
  • Promote company image and reputation
  • Qualifications in Engineering, or related field; graduate degree a plus.
  • Qualifications in Business Administration a plus
  • 10 years of Technical experience with Sales responsibilities

  • Contacts within and experience working with UK Ministry of Defence and contractors who serve the MOD,
  • Technical knowledge, experience, creativity, and resourcefulness in developing and selling power systems and purpose-built electronics solutions for mission critical Defence operations
  • Ability to read and assess contract terms, marketing materials, and customer technical specifications.
  • Strong financial literacy, business management acumen including holistic assessment of opportunities, risks, and proposals; ability to track Profit and loss results, understand the cause of variances and identify corrective actionKnowledge of Defence contracting processes used to acquire solutions.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs, including Microsoft office

This role will require access to sensitive information, assets, or equipment. The successful candidate must be a UK citizen and hold a valid security clearance or be capable of obtaining the necessary security clearances CRB/DBS.

Must have valid Driver’s Licence, with an acceptable driving record under Gresham’s policy.
